Fast Times At Barrington High
My thoughts on the new album...

Their third album, with a quirky name (taken from the High School that two of the members attended, respectively) 12 tracks, with additional vocals from some faces you might recognize (Gabe Saporta, Ryland Backinton, Mason Musso and Alex Suarez). FBR seem to be doing well for themselves this year, Panic's album came out in March, then we had "Rotation" by Cute Is What We Aim For, now this, also September 9th is the awaited date of Gym Class Heroes album.
But, if there's one thing about me that you should know, it's that FBR leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's something you either like or don't. The bands signed to it are seemingly listen worthy though it seems.
The two previous albums by the band are among some favorites of mine, and I was excited when this one was released.
The front cover leaves a little to be desired for me. I'm sorry, it's the feet. But it's simple enough, it's not terrible.
The first track of the twelve is "About a Girl" which I'd heard on their Myspace previously. And I love it. The music, the lyrics, his vocals. They all fit into this glorious jigsaw, and even though the song is, for me, about exactly what it feels like to think you're in love at 15, 16... (bittersweet) it will make you want to dance. Addtional vocals by Ryland Blackinton.
It seemed a hard track to live up, putting it at the begining of the record, you expect the rest to be just as good.
It doesn't disapoint. The second song, which was also on their myspace makes me smile so much. Entitled "Summer Hair = Forever Young".
Often it seems when a musician or band attempt to write songs about teenage years and/or High School experiences, they can very patronizing, with idiotic metaphors and are made of complete and utter wank. It's the truth.
But that isn't what any of these songs are like, they're a breath of fresh air, and won't make you want to pull your hair out.
It's not a bad record at all, very easy to listen to all the way through. Some nice melodies, and lyrics that might catch you out in some places. I recommend you go buy it. Right now. If you don't have this in your cd collection you're missing out, this is definate a leg up from the other albums released on the label this year. The Academy Is... do not dissapoint.
I would gladly give it 4 stars/thumbs up/whatever the hell you want, just go listen.
